Item Description
The hero was a solid actor who found his greatest fame in cowboy movies. A veteran of many westerns, he also had a lead in The Magnificent Ambersons and also appeared next to Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. After that film was released in 1946, he started to do one western after another. In 1948, the year this book debuted, he did four alone. By 1952 he had appeared in over two dozen of them. This gave rise to his status as a cowboy star. The title lasted for 41 issues until the title was changed in 1954 to Red Mask. This issue contains art by Frank Bolle and Dick Ayers. The book is also known by a title which appears on the cover, A-1 Comics #14. The pages are white. According to the CGC Census, this copy is the highest graded copy they have seen. This copy comes from the Mile High Collection.
