Item Description
1.25" with back paper by Bastian used c. 1911 and with just a small tan mark on the back paper. This device was patented in 1861 and claimed to allow the distribution of seeds over four to eight acres in an hour at a normal walking pace. The device was worn on a strap and a hand crank allowed the dispersal of seeds in all directions. The button depicts a well dressed farmer in the field operating the device. Very tiny broken lines spiral in all directions from the device to indicate flying seeds. Additional button text reads "50 Years Of Success/As Ye Sow/So Shall Ye Reap." We've seen only five examples in 49 years. Our last example without damage exceeded $400. Among the very finest of the early 19th century button designs and a great example in NM condition displaying Mint.
