Item Description
Sizes are 1.5" to 2-1/8". The 1.5" pair include "Best In View" which is Hake #26 along with Hake #59 reading "My Favorite Son Is Stevenson." Both are NM displaying Mint. The other four buttons include "Madly For Adlai" at 2-1/8" listed as Hake #2015. Exc. Other three buttons are 1.75". The rare but badly stained 1952 button has a 3/8" cello split on the reverse. Unlisted in Hake. Good. The "Our Next President" button is faded but clean. Fine. The real rarity in this group reads "I Am A 'Bird Dog' Voting Democratic." Quotation came from Charlie Wilson, who was Ike's Secretary Of Defense from 1953-57. In 1954, he made a comment about the plight of unemployed workers in Detroit saying "Personally, I Like Bird Dogs Better Than Kennel-Fed Dogs. The Bird Dogs Like To Get Out And Hunt Their Food But The Kennel Dogs Just Sit On Their Haunches And Yelp." The Stevenson folks turned this quotation into a pro-Stevenson 1956 button. This one is NM displaying Mint. Julie Powell Collection.
