Item Description
Lot of 39 from set of 48, each is 2x4". Issued in 1953 by three different newspapers, all in this lot are from "NY Journal-American" (see next item #2526 for Albany variants). ACC# M18. Card fronts are bw/red w/"Safety" theme images (some pertaining to sports such as baseball, football, golf and tennis) that include King Features Syndicate characters: Popeye, Dagwood, Jiggs, Snuffy Smith, Little Iodine, Beetle Bailey, Little King, Katzenjammer Kids. Fronts also have "Safety Slogan" along w/individual number for cash prize contention. Text backs w/prize info and issuing newspaper names. Missing card #s are: 1,6,10,14,22,27,35,40,41 but all of those can be found in the following lot. #43 has creases, VG. Rest has lt. aging but are clean and EX to NM.
