Item Description
Ike visited Korea June 19 & 20, 1960 where he spoke at the National Assembly of Korea and met w/Prime Minister Chung. Among the Secret Service agents assigned to protect Ike was Samuel Kinney who collected these artifacts and mounted them in a album. A mass of Koreans met Ike on his motorcades route where they waved thin paper Korean and American flags. Included in this group are two boards; the first has a Korean flag (text at bottom right "Ike's Trip To Korea 1959" miss attributed, less than .5" loss at top right) and the second has an American flag on front and Korean flag on reverse (49 star American flag has corner bend at lower right and moderate handling, Fine, Korean flag has extensive handling and loss at lower right, Good). An original c. 1960 photo of the parade shows Ike greeting Koreans from his vehicle w/numerous onlookers waving these flags (reverse of photo has "Office Of Public Information Republic Of Korea" stamp, minor handling Exc.) Additionally the group includes a handbill produced by "Korean Working Students Association" reading "We Like Ike!/We Love Peace-Maker!/Communist Invasion Has Brought Our Self-Supporting Students To The/Consolidated Free-Camp! Help Korean Students In The U.S./Help Themselves!/More Scholarship To Korean Boys!" (mounted to scrap book board, scattered light brown toning, VG). A rare group that is likely the only surviving examples. This collection is accompanied by two letters from Mr. Kinney's daughter and four of his "Special Agent Ret./The White House Washington" Secret Service business cards.
