Item Description
2-5/8x1-3/8". "Sports Records" is the name of a two-series, 50 card issue by British company, Turf Cigarettes. The last card in the set depicts George Sisler, though not named on the front, in a color action scene. Black & white back of the card describes Sisler's batting prowess.
George Sisler was widely regarded as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, finishing with a career batting average of .340, playing a total of 15 seasons for the St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators and Boston Braves. George recorded two of the highest seasonal base hit totals ever with 257 in 1920 and 246 in 1922. Sisler also batted over .400 in both of those seasons as well and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. Designated by CSG as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection".
