1.25" w/ tiny Emress name and address on top edge. On Feb. 20, 1962, Glenn, aboard Friendship 7, became the first American to orbit Earth. Later that year he was awarded the NASA Distinguished Service Medal. His astronaut years and flight during John Kennedy's administration help him launch his political career which included serving in the Senate 24 years after his 1974 election. NM.
