Item Description
During the timeframe between 1982 and 1986, there were no nationally distributed basketball cards produced via the traditional wax/cello/rack packs as basketball card collectors had grown accustomed to throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. However, a small card manufacturing operation located in New Jersey, which came to be known as Star Co., was able to acquire the NBA licensing rights to produce basketball cards beginning in 1983. For the next three seasons, Star would produce cards which were distributed at NBA arenas in the form of team sets. One of the biggest beneficiaries of these cards was none other than Michael Jordan, a widely heralded rookie when he entered the NBA in 1984. Over the next two seasons, Jordan would appear not only in Star's base card set each season but he also became the key card within a number of subsets. Presented here is one of the more popular Jordan subset cards issued the year before his traditionally accepted 1986 Fleer Basketball rookie card. One of only 20 graded by PSA at this level w/only 23 graded higher.
