Item Description
In the Li'l Abner comic strip of August 31, 1948, cartoonist Al Capp introduced the Shmoo to his readers igniting a spontaneous and unprecedented postwar merchandising boom. Between 1948-1950 some 100 plus products from 75 manufacturers offered what Americans demanded - Shmoo branded merch. Sealtest Ice Cream, in 1949, came up with these give-away litho tin tabs- in five colors and five designs for the larger ones at 2.25" tall. 20 of 25 possible are here. In the small size, 1-5/8" tall, there are also five colors, but apparently only two of each color and while the Shmoo image is the same on both, the text is either "Shmoos Prefer Sealtest Ice Cream" or "Sealtest Shmoo Club". The single button has no sponsor name, but also possibly Sealtest issued declaring "Shmoo Member/Shmoo Club." Vast majority of the tabs were never folded. A couple VF, majority Exc./NM. Largest assemblage known to us. The button is scarce.
