Largest is 3.5" dia. Included in the 86 pieces here are 48 stick pin lapel badges w/ a different candid portrait of the candidate at the center of a star, shield or rectangular frame. These are each unique manufacturers test badges produced to sort out what portrait would work best for each design. In this test sample manner there are 14 buttons 3/4-7/8" each w/a hand applied candid portrait at center of a cream background. Some have light brown glue residue under the cello as made. Given the hasty process in cranking out these test buttons it's no surprise to us to see such marks and in many ways they add to the charm. Continuing the sample test theme are nine unique browntone portraits at 1" dia. each. The riker display is book-ended by 15 buttons (two w/ribbons) that are not samples dotting the edges of the frame and the entire design is anchored by the 1940 classic Hake #8 a 3.5" portrait button w/slogan "The Winner And Next President Wendell L. Willkie The Hope Of Our Country".  Condition of note: center button has faint age at edge mentioned for accuracy; "God Bless America" light brown stain throughout; ribbons have holes and text wear. The majority are VF to Exc. as made. Among the most creative Willkie displays we have encountered in 57 years of viewing collections and because of this we couldn't bear the thought of breaking it up. While some may consider the strength of a frame the value of the pieces within it, we wager that sometimes the whole is greater the sum of its parts and in the end the true fun of collecting is building and sharing your collection in unique ways.
