Item Description
1.25x3.5". Issued by Butter Cream Confectionery Corporation of Union City, New Jersey, the R306 baseball set consists of 30 cards, one card in the set - Babe Ruth - is so scarce that the set is considered complete at 29 cards. The front of each tall and narrow, unnumbered, borderless piece bears an irregularly cropped and slightly grainy player image. The card backs have the player's name, position, and a printed contest where young fans would write in the estimated 1933 batting average for the player pictured and then send the card in to the company. Two variations exist: one with estimated average to September 1, the other to October 1.
Charles Henry "Chinski" Root (1899-1970) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher with the St. Louis Browns and the Chicago Cubs between 1923 and 1941. Root batted and threw right-handed. He holds the club record for games, innings pitched, and career wins with 201. Some of his career highlights include being an NL Wins leader in 1927, the Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame and a World Series Champion.
