Item Description
2x3.5". The 1921 Koester Bread (D383) set was issued in celebration of the first all-New York World Series as the Giants squared off against the rival Yankees. Issued by the Koester Bread Baking Company of New York City, this set consists of 52 unnumbered cards evenly divided between the two teams. The cards feature a black-and-white posed player photograph within a white border; the player's name, position, and his team name all are printed in the bottom panel of the card. The card backs are blank. The key card in the set belongs to Babe Ruth.
James Robert Shawkey (1890-1980) was an American baseball pitcher who played fifteen seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees from 1915 to 1927. He batted and threw right-handed and served primarily as a starting pitcher. Some of his career highlights include being the AL ERA leader and three time World Series Champion. The autograph is distinct and well placed along the side of the player and not impeding the image.
