Item Description
5-3/8x7" stiff cardboard mat with portrait ribbon sealed in center window by a large paper label covering the reverse. Reverse bio of Cody detailing his life as a government scout, guide and Indian fighter. Concluding sentence is "He is now Colonel of Militia on the staff of the Governor of Nebraska." However, this portrait "Woven In Pure Silk By T. Stevens, Coventry" (England) dates to 1887, four years after he founded Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1883.  Slightest curl to the cardboard, scattered small age marks on front mat and minor foxing of reverse label. Overall VF. Very early and scarce. See next two Cody related lots.
