Item Description
Issued in 1916, this unnumbered set consists of 97 felt pennants with a small bw player photo glued to each. The triangular pennants measure approximately 2-7/8" across the wide top and taper to a length of about 6". The photos are about 1-1/4x1-3/4" and appear to be identical to photos used for the Sporting News issues of the same period. The pennants list the player's name and team.
Connie Mack played professional baseball, primarily as a catcher, from 1886-1896 for Washington (NL), Buffalo (PL) & Pittsburgh (NL). Following his playing days, Mack would take over the managerial reigns of the Philadelphia Athletics in 1901 and would not relinquish the position until after the 1950 season. Connie retired with the all-time record for managerial wins with 3,731 along with five World Series titles and nine American League pennants. Mack was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.
