Item Description
1-5/16x2.5". The 1923 W572 hand-cut baseball card set consists, as designated by the American Card Catalog, consists of 121 cards. The set so closely resembles the 1922 E120 American Caramel set that it actually uses the exact same images, with the sole exception of Ty Cobb. The cards would appear in black-and-white and sepia-toned and were originally issued in strips of 10 cards of baseball players and boxers of the time, requiring precise cutting to insure high quality. The white-bordered cards featured a centered image of the player, the player's written in script within the bottom half of the image while his team seems manually printed below that name. Each unnumbered card reveals a copyright symbol at the bottom right in the image with an alphabetical combination implying the source of the photograph.
Eppa Rixey Jr. (1891 - 1963), nicknamed "Jephtha",[A] was an American baseball player who played 21 seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball from 1912 to 1933 as a left-handed pitcher. Rixey was best known as the National League's leader in career victories for a left-hander with 266 wins until Warren Spahn surpassed his total in 1959. Career highlights include being the NL wins leader, being inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
