Item Description
1.25" no maker's name. We believe this slogan "Let Hanna Shovel Your Coal" was inspired among the coal miners during the United Mine Workers strike which began against the mine owners Sept. 17, 1900. Senator Mark Hanna of Ohio, also head of the Republican National Committee, was concerned about the strike's impact on McKinley's re-election chances for Nov. 1900. Thus, he attempted to resolve the strike by getting J. P. Morgan to convey to the mine owners the wisdom of not hurting McKinley's election chances. The owners saw wisdom in that and did grant the striking miners a wage increase, but still refused to recognize their union. Light wear in reflected light. Glossy and VF. One known to us. Rare.
