Roger Eugene Maris played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). He is best known for setting a new MLB single-season home run record with 61 home runs in 1961. The record remained unbroken until 1998 and remained the American League (AL) record until Aaron Judge broke it in 2022. Some other career highlights include being a seven time All-Star, three time World Series Champion and a two time MVP. The New York Yankees retired his number "9" and he is enshrined in their Monument Park.
