Item Description
2.25". No maker and plain, unmarked back paper. Portraits of 25 team members. Text at bottom center reads "Fighting Virginians 1926." There are a number of tiny hairlines in the cello, only seen upon close inspection and mostly concentrated around the rim. Images remain strong and surface remains totally glossy. Fine. Rare and the only example we've offered in our 58 years. Paul Muchinsky Collection.

The "Fighting Virginians" represented the College of William and Mary. The first mascot of the college was the "Orange and White" named for the school colors in 1896. The team changed to the "Indians" in 1916, and earned the nickname "The Fighting Virginians" in 1923 after a loss to Syracuse. The college went through several other mascots over the last century and is currently a Griffin named "Reveley." The 1926 team went 7-3 overall in the 1926 season, and 3-0 in their conference.
