Item Description
Immediately upon conclusion of The Monkees 1966-68 eponymous TV series, production on a theatrical spin-off - Head - began. Starring The Monkees (Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith), it was written and produced by Jack Nicholson and Bob Rafelson, w/Rafelson directing. The musical adventure film was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Offered here is a rare 24x82" long stiff paper banner from the film's original release, used for display in movie theaters. Banner is dominated by large day-glo "Head" title w/text block at left noting "The Monkees" as well as co-stars Victor Mature, Sonny Liston, Annette Funicello and Carol Doda, going on to describe the film as "The Most Extraordinary Adventure-Western-Comedy-Love Story-Mystery-Drama-Musical-Documentary-Satire Ever Filmed!" Banner has been rolled and exhibits scattered margin wear/aging as well as sizable area of staining along bottom right margin. Inked title handwritten on back, which has remant of tape square at center left margin (not visisble on front). Fine overall. While more traditional advertising (posters, lobby cards, etc.) for this film are readily available, this banner presents a true rarity for The Monkees collector and is the only we've ever offered.
