Item Description
1.25” w/W&H back paper used only 1898-1900. Curl names three old-line krewes in 1890s New Orleans, all among the oldest parading krewes in the city. First is “Rex” , King of the Carnival,  although text is half hidden under the collet. Second, with most of lettering showing, is “Comus”, god of festivity. Last is “Proteus”, with most of lettering showing, for the god of rivers and oceans. Great scene of costumed jester, wearing  mask with giant nose and holding a trident as he high steps over ground littered with green colored  horn, baton, pointed hat and mask. NM. One known to us.
