Item Description
29x33" tall. Seen here in full length profile, Clay is positively vaunted by artist C. Younglove Haynes (Philadelphia) who has emulated a daugerrotype photograph (complete w/figural patriotic mat) into a nearly 3 foot tall marble composition. Label reverse by Haynes & Robinson photo studio terms this process a Prometheotype and claims to have spent three years in its labor. Likely a subscription, few were produced w/only a few surviving on market or archives. We are unable to locate another painted example of this mammoth size. Smaller version, in monotone gold, is held by the Smithsonian. Substantial cracks from its sheer weight. Exceedingly rare showstopper that easily warrants restoration. Plaque measures 24.25x28.75" w/ original ornate case frame. VG. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
