Item Description
8" tall. Between his arrival from Germany in 1857 and his death in 1868, Rudolph T. Lux established a reputation as one of the finest porcelain painters that America would ever see. His most prized subjects were completed during the Civil War years in Union occupied New Orleans. This exquisite portrait that includes the couple's two young girls, is the singular most moving example that we've seen including institutional holdings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and others. Confidently signed "Rudolph Thr. Lux N.O. Oct. 1863". Gilt wear, heaviest at the handle, w/no other condition issues. Portraits are unaffected. Exc. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
