Item Description
2.25" tall by 12" dia. Historically important, likely unique piece at the rare intersection of American politics and primitives. Yellow slip script in support of the progressive faction of the Democratic Party Loco Foco. Originally called the Equal Rights Party, it's widely believed the group took their name from the brand of quick matches they used to light a protest meeting after Tammany Hall men shut their gas lights down. Known mostly for The Flour Riot of 1837 and influence over the Independent Treasury Act. Extensive breaks and minor loss to coggled edge, easily worthy of restoration. Good. Pairs nicely w/next lot. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
