Item Description
Original illustrated display box contains 12.5" long tin litho w/hard rubber wheels and built-in key. Marx, c. 1960s. Box is decorated w/portrait images of Marvel Comics characters including - Green Goblin, Goliath, Thor, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, The Thing, Human Torch, Silver Surfer, Incredible Hulk, Sub-Mariner and Doctor Doom. Back panel has image of classic steam locomotive w/action images of Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man and Thor. Box has small penciled price on left side flap and underside. Box shows scattered wear, w/moisture staining and 1" corner tear (w/color touch-up) at lower right front corner. Scattered handling/corner tip wear. Box is just Fine overall but is incredibly rare, this being just the first example we've ever offered. Train is decorated w/many of the same characters, along w/the addition of Daredevil villains Gladiator and The Owl (listed incorrectly as Matthew Murdock). Number One (a very obscure Incredible Hulk villain) is also featured. Train shows little to no wear aside from where cars are connected and remains totally bright and glossy. Much nicer than typically found, winding mechanism work and train moves w/zig-zag action. NM. Rare and one of the most coveted 1960s Marvel items, made even more special by the inclusion of its even rarer box.
