DC. Large 10x13.5" Treasury-sized edition features the historic fight between Superman and Muhammad Ali w/the purpose of saving the Earth from the Star-Warriors. Published in April 1978, the issue's famous cover features images of celebrities from music, film, comic books as well as President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Denny O'Neil story w/Neal Adams cover and art w/additional art by Cory Adams, Joe Kubert and Gaspar Saladino. Comic has been signed by total of 20 personalities involved (or appearing within) w/the production of this historic Bronze Age comic book, the majority having signed front cover. This comic originally came from the collection of DC Comics Editor Julius Schwartz and was originally signed by boxing legend Muhammad Ali (1942-2016), who has signed by his image. Other signatures obtained while in Schwartz’s possession include – Neal Adams (1941-2022, signed on both cover and first page), Denny O’Neil (1939-2020), Terry Austin, Dick Giordano (1932-2010) and Schwartz (1915-2004) himself. O’Neil, Austin, Giordano and Schwartz signed front cover. Schwartz’s signed copy was sold at auction in 2003. The remaining signatures were obtained in-person after that time between Aug. 2003 and Oct. 2011. President Jimmy Carter (1924-2024) and First Lady Rosalynn Carter (1927-2023) have both boldly signed by their images of front cover. Others who signed front cover include – Joe Kubert (1926-2012, who provided original cover art which was rejected by Ali), Bob Layton and Larry Hama. Others who signed first pages include – Bernie Wrightson (1948-2017), Howard Chaykin, Sergio Aragonés, Bob McLeod, Lois Lane actress Noel Neill (1920-2016) and Paul Levitz. Last page has been signed again by Kubert and Chaykin. Issue shows scattered handling wear w/pinch creases to spine and corner tip foxing. Pages are evenly aged to cream in color. Fine overall. Signatures of Giordano, Austin and Schwartz on cover are a bit lt. but all remain legible. Astounding one-of-a-kind signed piece, which is sure to appeal to many collectors. Comes w/JSA LOA.
