Item Description
Box contains Trypticon (Decepticon Dinosaur/City/Battle Station) w/transforming mini-car Full-Tilt (who forms Trypticon's chest plate) and the tank Brunt (who is formed from several of his city mode towers and other pieces). This toy was released in two varieties, the first release being packaged w/o mini-poster and the second release coming w/glow-in-the-dark mini-poster. The example offered here is a first release w/o mini-poster, the much rarer variety of the two. Qualified. Speaking on the popularity of Trypticon, Hake’s Senior Consignment Manager Mike Bollinger had this to say – “For many, Trypticon represents the pinnacle of Transformers toys. It had everything. A kaiju-sized robot dinosaur that walked? What more could you want? There simply wasn’t much in the way of competition. For kids in 1986, this was one of those toys everyone wanted, and few could afford. If you or someone you knew were lucky enough to receive one, their schoolyard esteem was instantly boosted. Even today, collectors still eagerly snatch up every new version of Trypticon Hasbro releases. We’re very excited to see how Transformers collectors respond to the amazing opportunity presented in our July auction.” At time of cataloging, only four non-poster examples in total have been graded by AFA according to current AFA Population Report; grades are as follows – AFA 75 (the single sealed example), AFA 75Q, AFA 80Q (the example offered here) and an AFA 80+Q. In comparison, 20 examples of the variety w/mini-poster have been graded by AFA according to current AFA Population Report. Rare and among the most desirable Series 3 Transformers toys, this is the first time this first release Trypticon has ever been offered at auction. Due to size and/or weight of this item, shipping charges may be substantial. Please contact us w/any shipping inquiries prior to close of auction.
