Item Description
Original cardboard box w/illustrated lid contains 11.5" tall toy (measuring to top of separate celluloid umbrella top and counting wooden base) is all celluloid w/exception of metal bell accents. Toy depicts full figure of Mickey Mouse standing beside simulated clock (w/fake front) that has celluloid-covered metal rod which celluloid umbrella top w/sx strings of celluloid balls dangle from. This rod holds another celluloid figure w/face painted like Betty Boop. When built-in key on back is wound, this elaborate toy's umbrella top spins and Betty figure turns on pole as bells ring and clock hands revolve. Made In Japan, 1930s. Lid label shows both Mickey Mouse and Betty Boop w/clock in bkg. and "Time Is Gold" name as well as "Made In Tokyo Japan" text. Label shows moderate wear w/edge chipping, but image remains mostly unaffected. Lid has two corner split and box shows moderate wear w/creasing and edge/corner tip wear. Partial box label features repreated "Time Is Gold Name." Scattered spots of moisture staining. Interior corners of lid have had cardboard reinforcements added. VG. Toy has grease pencil price on backside of clock, which bears "Made In Japan" inkstamp. Toy exhibits lt. aging but remains free of any cracks/dents. Comes w/vintage winding key, but winding mechanism no longer functions as intended. Despite this, toy can be manually operated w/key, causing umbrella to spin both ways. Mickey's head was once mounted in place and is now movable. Still displays VF. Among the rarest and best designed Disney/comic characters toys we have seen or offered in our 58 years. Only known boxed example. Ex-Carl Lobel Collection. Thom Carchedi Collection.
