Item Description
PLEASE NOTE - RING CONDITION IS AS DESCRIBED. WHAT YOU SEE IN OUR PHOTO (ESPECIALLY IF ENLARGED) IS NOT WHAT IS SEEN BY THE NAKED EYE. THE HIGH QUALITY OF THE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE AMPLIFIES EVEN THE MOST MINOR IMPERFECTION. LOOKING AT THE ITEM IN PERSON AND UNDER NORMAL VIEWING CONDITIONS, LITTLE TO NONE OF THIS IS EVIDENT. WHEN WE GIVE A RING LIKE THIS A HIGH GRADE, THAT IS THE ACCURATE GRADE AND A MORE TRUE ACCOUNT OF THE ITEM AS SEEN IN THE CATALOG PHOTO.
One of two designs from 1941 produced by Ostby & Barton of Rhode Island and used by various dairies participating in the Superman Defense Club milk program. Metal ring w/adjustable band. On the design offered here, the removable top has a Superman paper sticker on the underside whereas the other design has a raised Superman image right on the top of the removable ring top (see next lot). The version offered here also featured various milk company initials on the top and this is variety w/an "M." Other initials we have seen/offered in our 58 years are: A, B, D, E, H, L, R and W. All are rare and we have only offered a few of any variety, in some cases only one example. Below the initial is a diagonal lightning bolt and below that an eyeball surrounded by accent lines. Sides feature a star and a planet. As designed, the brass plate snaps off from the base and the underside of the removable piece holds a paper sticker picturing and reading "Superman." This sticker is an outstanding NM example w/just a small dot of surface paper off below the last two letters of "Superman," which is barely noticeable unless magnified. We've offered only one or two other examples w/this paper image in such high grade condition. Outstanding and near full brass luster remains highly reflective all over. Of roughly 30 known examples in all grades, this is as nice as any example we have seen or offered in our 58 years. A true show stopper of an item for the Superman and premium ring collector.
