Item Description
1.5”. No maker, w/concave metal back and fixed bar pin. LaBelle Selica, the first American female lion tamer, began making appearances in 1901 w/Frank Bostock, showman entrepreneur and also a lion tamer, on the “polite” vaudeville circuit. She finished her career in 1907 at the Jamestown Exposition in the amusement area known as the “war path” w/Col. Ferari’s Wild and Trained Animal Show. While she handled up to seven lions, here she strikes a pose w/raised arms and one leg within a walled arena with a single, giant seated lion looming above her head. Exc. Our first offered and Rare.
