Item Description
For the second consecutive season, a Cuban League baseball card set was produced to promote Caramelo Deportivo. This second series expanded the number of cards included to 185 w/each measuring 1-7/8x2.5". Card fronts feature a bw photo. Card backs identify the player and supply their Cuban League affiliation. In addition, a candy ad appears on back bottom. Thin paper stock as well as the issuance of an album for these to be mounted in account for the prominently lesser conditions whenever these rarities are found.
Jonas Donald Gaines (1914 – 1998), nicknamed "Lefty", was an American baseball pitcher in the Negro leagues. He played professionally from 1937 to 1953 with several teams. A native of New Roads, Louisiana, Gaines served in the US Army during World War II.
