Item Description
1.5". Samuel H. Moss, Inc. New York on rim curl. Photo at center of Jackie in Brooklyn Dodgers cap. Text above and below "Tells His Story In The Brooklyn Eagle" along w/letter "P." Buttons were issued w/each letter of his name w/prizes awarded for completing the set. These were issued by the Brooklyn newspaper who ran a series of articles on Jackie's story of entering the Major Leagues. All of these are rare w/few known examples, regardless of letter, but this "P" version is the only example we have seen in our 58 years and for reasons why we will never know, it is for a letter that is not part of Jackie’s name. Was this a test button, an error or something else, your guess is as good as ours. Other letter examples at auction in the recent past have sold in the $3-5K range. Of those, we have only seen 5 of the possible 13 letters in his name. Bottom has .75" horizontal hairline crack running from the word "In" to the right edge. Tiny hairline above "So" of "Son." Additional trace of surface wear mostly only seen upon close inspection. Remains clean and glossy. Trace of oxidation to metal back. VG. Those in this series are among the most sought after of all Jackie Robinson buttons.
