Item Description
2.5x4" on stock.  Ornate design features the traditional Democratic forefathers, including Washington, Jefferson, and Jackson. Below them are McClellan ("The Union") and Seymour ("The Laws"). McClellan was running against Lincoln in 1864, while Seymour was engaged in an unsuccessful attempt at re-election as New York's governor. His opposition to draft laws and sympathy with protestors during the infamous 1863 New York City draft riots put him squarely at odds with President Lincoln. This attitude was further crystallized in Seymour's own run for the presidency in 1868 against Ulysses Grant. Moderate wear w/light even ageing and edge handling.A scarce and early coattail item featuring two Democratic presidential nominees. Rex & Patti Stark Collection.
