Item Description
7/8" w/W&H back paper. Likely a Klan or militant anti-Catholic message, as the "Little Red Schoolhouse" slogan was used regularly by the KKK and other like-minded anti-Catholic groups to keep unwanted "sectarianism" (ie: Catholic) interpretations of the Bible out of public schools. This motif was also used by the Menace, a Missouri-based anti-Catholic newspaper w/a larger circulation than the New York Times at its height. The Little Red Schoolhouse was also used as the symbol of the American Party (short-lived anti-Catholic/nativist party) in the 1924 campaign. Button retains vibrant color and only minor surface wear. A well centered and high grade specimen. NM. Bob Atwater Collection.
