Grace Slick had only joined the Airplane three weeks prior to this concert, and the band was in the midst of recording their second studio album Surrealistic Pillow that wouldn't be released till Feb. of 1967. They were in the throes of pioneering psychedelic rock at the time of this concert on the path of leadership in the Summer of Love and cementing iconic status. They are the only band to play at all three of the era's touchstone rock festival events, Monterey Pop, Woodstock & Altamont, and performed sets at the Human Be-In and the first Isle of Wright.
