Item Description
14.25x20-5/8" artboard has pen and ink original art for complete, one-page "Ghosts Of Famous Pirates" story published as page 15 in Witches Tales #3 by Harvey, May 1951. Art is attributed to Bob Powell (1916-1967), known for his work on Sheena, Queen Of The Jungle as well as for provided the art for the iconic Mars Attacks trading cards in the 1960s. Page features total of seven panels, illustrating "The Ghost Of The Pirate Blackbeard," showing a fictionalized version of the famed pirate's final battle, w/last panel telling how Blackbeard was buried w/o his head, causing his ghost to roam the Earth looking for it. While thrilling, this is a factually inaccurate telling to Blackbeard's demise, as his final battle took place off of Ocracoke Isalnd, NC, not the mouth of the Potomac River, though Blackbeard was beheaded so that a reward couild be collected. His body was buried at sea, helping cement his mysterous legacy. Top margin has inked title and issue/page numbers. Penciled numbers at top right. Fifth panel has strip of aging where text correction strip was once pasted. Artboard has even lt. aging but o/w art remains clean and VF/Exc.
