While movie posters have had a foothold in the collecting world for many years now, what has come to be known as Alternate Movie Posters have gained serious traction amongst collectors in recent years. Though typically not used in theaters, these coveted pieces of movie memorabilia feature stunning art, more nuanced designs, brilliant use of color and are printed in much smaller limited editions. These "Alternate" posters have been created for films populating cinemas now as well as movies that graced the Silver Screen decades ago. Created by individual artists as well as design firms, these posters see distribution through the artists themselves or through companies like Mondo, one of the most popular among collectors, and typically sell out very quickly, sometimes in just minutes. Mondo helped legitimize these Alternate Movie Posters, w/releases having been selected for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' movie poster archive and being used for wide film releases. Offered here is 24x36" screenprint on heavy stock by highly regarded Washington-based illustrator and silkscreen poster artist Tyler Stout, known for his limited edition movie and concert posters (see following two lots). This Star Wars screenprint was released in 2010 in a limited edition of 850, this being hand-numbered "398/850" at lower right in pencil.
