Item Description
1.5" issued c. 1950s, no backpaper as issued. Reads "Richard Allen Day Founder A.M.E. Church" and gives his dates of birth and death. In 1799, Bishop Asbury ordained him as the first black deacon of the Methodist Church and Allen founded the first fully independent black denomination in America - the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Tiny dent on back collet. Exc. and displays Mint. Rare.
