Item Description
8x8x1.5" tall cardboard hinged box. 1920 made by toymaker J. Chein. Box lid w/horses identified w/'Odds' for betting. Horses identified are "Man Of War, Sailor May, Hiawatha, Speedwell, Dainty-M, Violet-B, Miss Fire, Rei Count." Box is slightly concave. .5" dia. hole is punched through from inside due to spinner center of game base. Game directions are on back. One corner split but box is VG. Box interior doubles as betting board. Handling creases. 8" dia. by 1" tall tin litho base has spinner top. Graphics on base are the same as the graphics on the box lid. Lithoed base is Exc. Interesting to note that Man-O- War was scheduled to run in the Kentucky Derby in 1920. His owner pulled him from the race and he never ran in the Derby, however, he won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes that same year. Had he run and won the Kentucky Derby, he would have won the Triple Crown that year. An interesting racing fact.
