This full color portrait button has cardboard back with horizontal pin plus gold foil sticker of the maker Philadelphia Badge Co. The cardboard holds a 5” gold text on blue ribbon. Some loss of gold color but easily readable is the text “John B. Kelly/Inaugural Party Of Philadelphia/To Washington Presidential Inauguration Jan. 20, 1937.” The celluloid has about 2 dozen exceedingly tiny raised dots barely even noticeable to the touch but showing in reflected light. The ribbon has a couple of crease lines in addition to the small loss of gold color but overall the piece still displays Fine. John B. Kelly, Sr. was a famous triple Olympic Gold Medal winner in rowing, the first to achieve this in the sport. He was also the father of movie actress Grace Kelly and later Princess of Monaco. Kelly ran for Mayor of Philadelphia in 1935 and although Philadelphia was a Republican city, he came very close to winning. He later became Chairman of the Philadelphia County Democratic Party in 1937 and in 1941 FDR named him National Physical Fitness Director, a post he held throughout World War II. Rare.
