Item Description
1.25" inscribed on curl "L.A. Stamp & Stat Co." Reverse collet has some surface oxidation with a small bit of brown age tone surrounding while on the front of the piece there are two dark but small spots on the extreme left edge plus lighter dot at top and final area of faint aging at lower right. Vast majority of the button's face displays clean. Pictured is singer Dennis Day wearing coonskin cap and holding a rifle, thus representing the political symbols of vice presidential candidate Estes Kefauver while at the same time he holds up a pair of shoes each with an obvious hole in the sole thus spoofing Adlai Stevenson's worn out shoe captured in a press photograph and used by both the Stevenson and Eisenhower 1956 campaigns. Day is also wearing a large button on his lapel although details are not clear. Text on the button reads "Vote For Dennis Day - Hotel Sahara." This famed hotel opened in 1952 and was once the epicenter of Las Vegas glitz. It closed in 2011. First we've seen.
