Item Description
Large heavy medal 3.5" and over .25" thick. The dies are by C.C. Wright. Obverse has raised bust, beneath is his name and above a wreath design with lower text "Resolution Of Congress May 9, 1848." Reverse features incredibly detailed battle scene all surrounded by two rattlesnakes forming a cartouche above sprays of cactus and oak. Text at top is "Buena Vista Feb. 22. & 23. 1847." The reverse features over 50 horses individually sculpted with mounted riders, a trumpeter, a flag bearer, and dozens of Cavalrymen, six cannons accented by smoke bursts all against a mountainous background. A few extremely small nicks scattered around the raised outer rim edges. Finish is extremely clean with just three small 1/8" spot marks showing in reflected light. Extremely Fine. Sen.
