Auction #209 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
First is 1.75" long silver colored metal key fob missing tiny 1/16" piece on the loop edge. Details are gone from use at upper left edge but this was generic text "If Found Return To." Rest of the text is hand stamped and very clear reading "W.E. Miller/M.M. 2 C./U.S.S. Maine/P.M.F.M.VA." We do not know when this sailor was in service but the Maine launched in 1889. We did not find him on the 1898 crew list. Of the crew at the time of the explosion only 94 survived from a total of 355. Second item is 1-3/8" tall precisely cut piece of brass 1/8" thick with a fixed loop at the top. Hand engraved text on one side reads "Boys Remember The Maine Feb 15 '98." Opposite side has three entwined initials "S/R/G" although we aren't sure what order they should be in. This piece is NM as made.
