First is a rare 1" reading "Do We?/Yes!" The word Seattle can just be barely read along the collet with a partial union bug. Bottom edge has three near pinpoints indents in the celluloid as made and these have a little gray tone to them but the vast majority displays Mint. Next is 1" reading "It's Time For A Change" with union bug from Aberdeen, Wash. Couple of barely noticeable gray marks towards the bottom. Next is 1.75" rebus button reading "Don't Be An (Ass) Vote For Dewey." NM displaying Mint. Next is 1-1/8" litho with somewhat aged cream background paint. This reads "Let's Go Register Now/Vote In Nov." Has name of maker Bastian on the curl. Last is 2.5" listed as Hake #48. Reads "Clear Everything With Sidney". Button surface has several shallow dents and there is a long cello split on the reverse plus several small dents on the reverse collet. In spite of the damage the button displays clean and glossy and has an interesting back story. Sidney Hillman was a labor leader with ties to F.D.R. and other New Dealer's. During the 1944 campaign, Dewey charged that the C.I.O. and Hillman's Political Action Committee dominated F.D.R. There was an unfounded rumor F.D.R. told his party leaders to "Clear It With Sidney" before selecting his 1944 Vice-Presidential candidate Truman. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
