Auction #212 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 988 in auction 212
Item Description
Smallest are three Russian made badges with real photos of Cosmonauts. Each is in what seems to be a plastic rim surrounding a real photo with plastic backing and small brass horizontal pin. The rest of the items are American and begin with real photo button showing "America's First Astronaut Navy Lt. Comdr. Alan B. Shepard." This is the first American button made to commemorate an actual manned space flight, although his trip was sub-orbital. Top center is rare button showing "Astronaut John Glenn" who made the first orbital flight. Silver metal reverse is missing a good bit of luster and front has some extremely tiny age marks on the extreme outer rim edge. A rare button we've seen only once or twice before. Next are five litho buttons from the late 1950s with most carrying the theme inspired by the Russian launch of "Sputnik" although two show the space dog here known as "Mutnik." Next at 3.5" is button commemorating the first "Rendezvous In Space" accomplished by "Gemini 6 and 7." A number of tiny but pinpoint indents towards the center. Small piece of cello off the bottom edge. Next are ten plastic "coins" all with space themes and each numbered and reverses reading "Save Complete Set Of 60 Space Coins/Crunchee Corn Chips." Some of these also carry the name Gordons. The final two of this design are from a different series with reverses marked "Made In Canada." Last is a small brass pin in a ship design but with the word "Apollo" across the hull. All are Exc. to Mint except as noted.
