Auction #212 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 988 in auction 212
Item Description
1.5" wide by 2" tall by .5" deep. The underside of the tin has a thin layer of transparent glue along with partial company insignia and lettering about 60% complete. However, much of this text on the underside also repeats around the side edge of the top lid. This reads "Firma J. Pette HZ. W (3 letters missing due to oxidation dot) and then Merverr/Stoom Chocolare, Fabriek'de Arend." The lid top displays face of a smiling jockey wearing a red cap with details on the cap and face nicely embossed. Numerous but exceedingly tiny dots of paint missing although in total probably about 97% paint remaining. This Dutch firm began producing chocolate in 1872 and this tin dates from the early 1900s.
