Item Description
Sizes are 1.25" to 1-1/8". First two buttons have center panel with "John & Yoko" with one also reading "Let The Stay In The U.S.A." and the other "America/Don't Let Them Down." These were issued probably in 1974 as we know of a 1974 dated button related to this issue. Lennon's anti-war activities leading up to the 1972 Presidential campaign brought a February, 1972 suggestion form Senator Strom Thurmond that "Deportation Would Be A Strategic Counter-Measure." Sure enough, the next month in March, U.S. Immigration began deportation hearings that ensnared Lennon into late 1975. He eventually won the battle. Dylan was one who helped defend him sending a hand-written letter in 1972 to the INS. Third item reading "I'm Lennon People" is one for which we found a master notated button in the Marshall Levin Collection. He noted the back on that one as "Comm. To Elect John Lennon/Brockton, Mass/July, 1976/250" (indicating the number produced). Next item with Lennon portrait is notated on reverse by Levin as "John Lennon." This is a British button c.late 1970s. Minor oxidation on back but front still displays Mint. Next button reads simply "Lennon Saves". Next is a 1980 memorial button for him. Next is 1.5" button reading "Free Bob Dylan/D.L.F." We do not know the meanings of the initials. Reverse collet has small 1/8" rough spot and there is some rim stain mostly on the back but with narrow line around the front left hand extreme edge. Still with gloss. Last reads "Bob Dylan Newsletter." Another Levin item with his notation on back "'88." All items are NM and display Mint except as noted. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
