Item Description
1.25” beautiful real photo sepia showing Pier which “Extends 3,000 Feet Into Lake Michigan” as noted by tiny text on right side. This event was held “July-30 to Aug. 14/1921” and was billed as the “Greatest Collection Of Business and Industrial Exhibits This City Has Seen” since the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. Events included mock pirate attacks, sky-diving stunts, speed boat races, a typing contest (126 Words Per Minute Were Needed To Win). The pier became a major convention center for decades. It took its current name Navy Pier in 1927. Pictured is the Mayor of Chicago, known as “Big Bill” who during his terms 1915-1923 and 1927-1931 earned himself a high rank among the most unethical mayors in American history.
