Auction #216 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 977 in auction 216
Item Description
3" dia featuring a high relief portrait at center with additional text "General Franklin Pierce President Of The United States". Likely c.1852 as it was common for items of that era to take a presumptuous tone when referencing a candidate for the Presidency. Tiny 1/4" area of loss on pewter rim at 7 o'clock that is only seen as a 1/8" split that is virtually unnoticeable when displayed. Original mirror with two small areas of silver loss while still retaining over 90% of original reflective surface. A strong strike and clear text coupled with the original paper insert that has taken on a ghost image of the portrait of Pierce combine to make this a superior example to the other two we know exist. A rare opportunity to obtain an important artifact for the advanced collector. See item #15 for similar Taylor field mirror. Additional photos online.
