Auction #187 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 926 in auction 187
Item Description
Following their first reunion (see #174) the Rough Riders meet the next summer in "Oklahoma City July 1-2-3-4." This splendid souvenir button was produced for the event. It has been in the Hake collection for many years and we have not seen another. A Rough Rider tramples the Spanish flag in a field with barbed wire fencing has he shoulders his rifle and holds aloft a flowing American flag. Condition is about as mint as possible. Trivial wear under magnification, superb color, no stain, near perfect centering, high gloss and Mint W&H backpaper. Among the rarest and most graphic TR-related buttons known. At the time, TR was running for vice president and, like in 1899, he was in attendance.
