Item Description
Single-sided 11x14" glossy paper award featuring image of figural Superman award. Sent to wholesalers and retailers in the 1970s by the Independent News Co., Inc., a magazine/comic book distribution business owned by National Periodical Publications, the parent company of DC Comics. Independent News distributed all DC publications, as well as those of a few rival publishers, in addition to pulp and popular magazines from its founding in 1932 until c. 1970. Award has been signed in blue felt tip pen at top by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, who has added "Fond Regards To Charlie, A Super Guy!" inscription. Bottom has been signed by comic artist Jack Burnley (the first artist to take over Superman art duties from his co-creator Joe Shuster), who has added "All The Best To Charlie" inscription. Below Burnley, Siegel's wife Joan (who served as the inspiration for Lois Lane) has signed, adding "With Love To Charlie & Joan" inscription. Award has some corner tip wear w/small creases, but could be matted and framed for a VF display. Charlie Roberts Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
